SFE 2025 Artist Think Tank: Cultivating a Relationship with Galleries & Collectors

This Artist Think Tank session is an open forum to discuss how can artists build long-term, meaningful relationships with galleries and collectors? We’ll explore strategies to connect, communicate, and collaborate with the art world in a way that supports your creative career.

Whether you're just beginning to show your work or looking to expand your visibility, grow your collector base, expand your representation and sales opportunities, this session offers practical tips, personal insights, and tools for building your professional presence as an artist.

Topics May Include:

  • Understanding what galleries look for in artists
  • Building your portfolio and artist statement
  • Making the first connection: outreach and follow-up
  • How to be gallery-ready: Professionalism, pricing & presentation
  • Communicating with collectors: email, events, and studio visits
  • Maintaining long-term relationships with art buyers and dealers
  • Red flags and boundaries: What to watch out for
  • Peer discussion and Networking

What You’ll Gain:

Confidence in approaching galleries, clarity on how to present your work, and inspiration from fellow creatives in a supportive environment.

This Zoom space is for artists at all levels, from beginners to seasoned pros, to connect, collaborate, and have conversations about topics in the business-of-arts. This is your chance to meet your peers, at all levels of expertise, from across New Mexico.

Wendy Stein, Regional Manager of the WESST SFE Women's Business Center will be the facilitator.
