The doors are opening! We welcome you to join us for this in-person program on the Indian Arts and Crafts Act (IACA) and on intellectual property for artists and craftspeople. The event will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the University of New Mexico – Gallup Campus.
TRAINING OVERVIEW
Our speakers will be Ken Van Wey, Program Analyst, with the Indian Arts and Crafts Board (IACB) of the U.S. Department of the Interior, and Susan Anthony, Tribal Affairs Liaison and Senior Trademark Attorney, with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Ken and Susan have presented together over the years at many programs for artists and craftspeople and are delighted to offer this unique opportunity in Gallup, New Mexico. Ken will speak about the IACA, including possible changes on the horizon, and Susan will speak about intellectual property, with a particular focus on copyright, trademarks, and design patents.
DISCUSSION & INDIVIDUAL CONSULTATIONS
Following Ken’s and Susan’s presentations, we will open the program for a spirited, and interactive discussion among all participants. Lunch will be provided while the discussion continues. After the discussion concludes, Susan will be available for one-on-one consultations in 20-minute increments, for those who may want personalized assistance on copyright, trademarks, patents, trade secrets or on domain names and websites. Although Susan cannot provide legal advice, she can help you better understand what type(s) of intellectual property you may have, and various resources for your further consideration. PLEASE NOTE: These sessions require prior registration as there are limited spots. Please reach out to Janelle Henry at 505-566-3715 to schedule your session.
