Decoding Financial Statements: Interpreting Your Business’s Health

This workshop covers the essentials of accounting, from understanding the big three financial statements to the golden rules of accounting and double-entry bookkeeping. Participants will explore T-Accounts and other accounting basics, empowering them with the knowledge to interpret their financial health accurately and make informed business decisions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the big three financial statements.
  • Learn the golden rules of accounting and double-entry bookkeeping.
  • Utilize T-Accounts and other accounting tools.
  • Analyze financial statements to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Use financial statements to attract investors, secure loans, and manage growth.
  • Apply accounting knowledge to make informed business decisions.
  • Participate in case studies to organize finances and interpret information into actionable outcomes.

Speaker(s): Laura Zarrate founded Athena CPAs after gaining extensive experience in Big 4 accounting, as well as national and local levels, with the vision of helping entrepreneurs scale their companies. She has incorporated best practices to create a more efficient, effective business model and aims to foster collaborative client relationships using innovative technology. Laura works closely with clients across various industries, including health coaching, law, and retail, and is especially passionate about supporting women entrepreneurs. A University of South Florida alumni, she holds both a bachelor's in accounting and finance and a Master's in accounting, earning her CPA in Florida in 2015. Outside of work, Laura enjoys weight training, bodybuilding, cooking, and spending time with her husband Sebastian, their son Leo, and their two dogs, Mia and Mateo.
